Clonmel’s Sean Tobin to represent Ireland at European Junior Cross Country Championships

by admin on 09/12/2011

Sunday 11th December will always be a special day in the life of Sean Tobin. On that day he will wear the green singlet of Ireland as he represents his country at the European Junior Cross Country Championships in Valenje, Slovenia.  He will do his Club, Town, County and Country proud on that day.  This is a fantastic achievement by Sean who is a brilliant ambassador for the Sport and for the Club.

Earlier this year, January, in Tullamore he won the Under 17 All Ireland Cross Country title. Then on August 28th Sean ran the proverbial blinder when finishing a very close 4th in the European Youth Olympics 3000m Track final in Trabazon, Turkey in 8 mins 29.91 secs, a Personal Best. He also ran in the McCain’s Invitational Cross Country race in Bristol in the Men’s under 20 race where he finished a very creditable 9th in 25 mins 7 secs.

Club Chairman, Albert Doyle said that it was a fantastic achievement and he like everyone else in the Club were delighted for Sean and that it couldn’t happen to a nicer person. He becomes the first Club athletes to compete in these prestigious Championships.

European Athletics is pleased to announce that it will stream live the Velenje 2011 SPAR European Cross Country Championships with English-language commentary on Sunday 11th December.
