Final parade sees the closure of Clonmel’s Kickham Barracks

The 12th Infantry Battalion troops of Kickham Barracks marched through the streets of Clonmel one last time today bringing an end to an era of over 350 years of Military presence in the town.

Army personnel were joined by Local Dignitaries, along with family, friends and people of the public to witness history of a Military presence in Clonmel being brought to an end with the final lowering of the flag in the Main Square, the flag was then handed over to Commanding Officer Robert Kiely.

Of the 200 soldiers stationed at Clonmel Barracks over 30 have retired while the remainder will be relocated to Limerick and Kilkenny.
