The Maxi Zoo pet store in Clonmel has announced details of a unique competition which gives local pet owners an opportunity to turn their pet into a national and international star.

The store is inviting local pet owners to submit photos of their pet through a Facebook competition which is designed to find the pets who will become the face of the company’s Euro Calendar Stars 2014.

Maxi Zoo intends to publish three calendars with one each for dogs, cats and other animals. One month in each calendar will be dedicated to the best photo of a pet from Ireland.

The judges will also select the best summer and best winter photos from all of the entries submitted for inclusion in each of the three calendars.

The free calendars will be available for customers to collect later this year from the 15 Maxi Zoo stores across Ireland and from all other stores in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, France, Belgium, Denmark, Poland and Hungry.

The lucky Irish pet owners whose pet photo is chosen for inclusion in each calendar will also receive a €100 gift voucher from their local Maxi Zoo store.

Pet owners in Clonmel can enter the competition anytime up to Sunday, March 3rd next by visiting

Visitors to the page will be invited to create an animal album using a Facebook app and to upload three photos of their pet.

Maxi Zoo fans across Europe can vote for their favourite animal photo from any country. An international judging panel will select the winning dog, cat and other animal photos from the most popular photos.

“This is a fabulous opportunity for pet owners to turn their pet into a European Calendar Star. Pets make great photos and pet owners in Clonmel have no excuse for not joining the fun and sharing their photos with other pet lovers,” said Tony Cross, Managing Director of Maxi Zoo Ireland.

“We are looking for the three best photos of your pet in a natural environment. The more creativity and originality the photo shows the better your chances of winning and making your pet an international star,” he added.

Customers entering the competition are advised to submit photos taken with a digital camera rather than a phone and to ensure that the quality settings are 300dpi.
