New group launched to help out the homeless people in Clonmel

by admin on 24/02/2015

A superb turn out recently in Kate Ryan’s lounge for the official launch of our new group to help out the homeless people here in Clonmel.

As of from Monday 23rd of February we as a group will be meeting every night by the bottle bank in Super Quinn car park/opposite the cinema from “”7pm until 8.30pm”” 313 days of the year.

Our aim will be to supply sandwiches, soup or tea to the less well off in our town who find themselves homeless.

Vice Chair; June Looby
Secretary; Nathan Mc Neill
Vice Secretary; Natasha Mc Neill

So far we have 15 members and I know that there are other’s that I’ve met these last few day’s who have shown interest in helping out.

Between us all we plan on having 5 members of the group to attend our new meeting spot each and every night on a rota basis so that everyone can play their part.

I can only say that I’m over the moon with the response I have received with the launch of this new community initiative.

We plan to make a difference and tonight’s response holds true to our plans.

The “ONLY” night we will not be around will be each and every FRIDAY night, as there are others here in Clonmel who operate this same service at Clonmel railway station , one night a week.

So if there is someone out there who feels that they might have a more suitable location for us to operate out of, for the nights that will be freezing cold or raining for this hour and a half we would love to hear from you.

On behalf of our group I would like to say a massive thank you to those of you who are helping and those who have offered to help.

I want to say a special thanks to Johnny and Marian O Flaherty for leaving us use her premises (Kate Ryans lounge ) to hold our meetings.

Dermot O Donovan, elected Chairman of the Clonmel Homeless group
