Lonergan welcomes funding for Safety Measures and Play Areas under CLÁR

Independent Local Councillor for Clonmel/Cahir Borough District, Martin Lonergan has welcomed the announcement by Michael Ring T.D., Minister of State for Regional Economic Development at the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs today of €34,740 in funding for Safety Measures and Play Areas under the CLÁR Programme as part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development. 

Speaking today, Cllr Lonergan said, The initiatives under these measures have come from the communities themselves in cooperation with Tipperary County Council and are a great example of the work that can be done when communities and local authorities work together. I am delighted that 3 projects in the Clonmel Borough namely at Ballylooby for the provision three number Speed Safety signs, Goatenbridge for the provision three number ‘Speed Safety’ signs in total on the approach roads into Goatenbridge Village and Clogheen to provide three number ‘Driver Feedback’ signs on the approach roads (R665 & R668) into Clogheen Village.

Ballylooby will receive €11,880 (Total €13,200), Goatenbridge will receive €11,880 (Total €13,200) and Clogheen €10,980 (Total €12,200) which will be topped up by the Local Authority and Local Communities.

The finished projects will support parents, teachers and communities to ensure that they have safe and secure environments for their children to learn and play.”

Concluding Cllr. Lonergan said, “The CLÁR programme is funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and forms part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development which support targeted community infrastructure and voluntary emergency first responders.”
