As of 1st September 2017 the old QQI system for Occupational First Aid will be changing to a new system under the control of Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC). From 1st September, under this new system, all newly trained or refreshed First Aiders will be known as First Aid Responders, replacing the term “Occupational First Aiders”.
Under the new PHECC system, 6 will be the maximum number of participants allowed on a programme (unless 2 instructors are involved) and the refresher programme will be 2 days in duration, replacing the current 1 day refresher (it is possible that this may change over time).  Also the 90 day (3 month) grace period offered by QQI if a refresher goes out of date will not be offered by PHECC, so it will be essential to refresh certificates within the 2 year period, from this September.
It is important to note that any training completed between now and 31st August under the existing QQI system will be perfectly valid and all certificates will remain valid for the full 2 years, as before. Therefore you can continue to train and refresh under the old system until September.
