FAI Junior Cup 2nd Round
Borrisokane FC 1-2 Clonmel Town

Jamie Ahearne’s last-minute strike from just inside the box gave Town a deserved second-round victory in the FAI Junior Cup in Borrisokane but were pushed all the way by a very determined home side. Town should have taken the lead early on through Shane O’Meara in the third minute and minutes later a Paul Shanahan header went very close. Stephen Kelly also had a great chance on the 20-minute mark but failed to trouble the home keeper. Town eventually broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark as Keith Guiry’s pinpoint pass set Jamie Ahearne in on goal and he finished superbly to put us 1-0 up. Minutes later Conor O’Sullivan set up Keith Cashman who should have put Town further ahead but it remained 1-0 at the half time whistle. O’Sullivan set up Stephen Kelly ten minutes into the second half and his volley was goal bound but was deflected away to the home sides relief. Town were finding it hard to find that insurance goal and were made pay as some sloppy play let in the home side and they made it 1-1 with just six minutes left. As the game entered the final seconds and extra time loomed up popped Ahearne again to drive home from just inside the box to the delight of the Town travelling supporters. Well done to all the lads to come out on top in a very physical encounter.
