Independent TD Mattie McGrath has welcomed the allocation of funding to almost 80 sporting groups and organisations in County Tipperary under the Sports Capital Programme Grant Scheme. Deputy McGrath was speaking after the Minister for Transport, Sport and Tourism, Shane Ross, confirmed to him that funding grants ranging from €3,000 to €91,500 are to be allocated in the coming days:

“The Sports Capital Programme grants are absolutely vital for all of our local organisations that are committed to developing sports and physical recreation facilities throughout the county.

I want to commend all the clubs and groups who have been awarded funding because it is an exhaustive and gruelling process applying for these grants and one which has gone on for months longer than expected this year.

I know that most of those who have been awarded the funding are absolutely delighted and will breathe a major sigh of relief now that the process is over and they can get on with developing their clubs or their grounds.

We must remember that the majority of these groups and clubs are voluntary and they rely on these grants for the extraordinary work they do in their communities.

I also want to sympathise with those clubs who were refused. The application process is complicated and at times unfair.

I will continue to do everything in my power to promote all the great sporting clubs and groups in Tipperary,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
