Peaks Mountaineering Club Notes 29.11.17

by admin on 29/11/2017

The coming week is a busy one for our club as we have our annual knees up in Hillview on Saturday the 9th December. Make sure you have your ticket booked as the numbers are limited and a great night is planned. We have sumptuous food, refreshments of all types, music to dance to and conversations recalling mountains climbed, trails walked and characters met. Don’t miss the get together of the mountaineers.

Josephine O Brien led the 10.00am walk with Ray Prendergast mentoring.  With a party of six in total Josie led from the woods above Clogheen up to Bay Lough and from there up the wall to Knockshanhullion and lunch.  From there it was on to the Hares Gap and a short distance below there the party took a little used track henceforth known as Josie’s Lane.  This took the party over to the Araglin river and the beautiful waterfalls.  From there it was back on the Avondhu Way and back to Bay Lough.  From there it was a trek back through the woods to the cars.  A great walk, with complicated navigation well led by Josephine in poor visibility.  She is certainly learning the skills on the club Mountain Skills Course. Walks this Sunday 3rd of December are in the Comeraghs with John Byrne leading the 10am walk. The noon walk is led by Anthony Doyle wih William Smyth assisting. The ordinance survey map for the Comeraghs is no 75 and worth packing. Also make sure your head torch works and has a spare set of batteries as even led head torches go flat. Wearing the proper gear is a must at this time of the year and the leader’s decision is final on this matter

As usual the walk on the day of the Christmas party 9th December will be from Ballymacabry back to Clonmel, the walk will return to Hillview which is the venue for the Christmas party. Walk leader is Niall Quinlivan 0857898309 assisted by Jim O’Flaherty 0852857052. Bring a flask or drink and something to eat as the walk is at an easy pace and will stop for a spot of lunch en route. Give the leaders a call for more information and a description of the route.
