World Book Day Ireland – Thursday 3rd March 2022

by admin on 02/03/2022

A Chairde, we are delighted to be celebrating World Book Day in Ireland on Thursday 3rd March 2022. Over the last 25 years, World Book Day has become firmly established as Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading for children and young people. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading. This may sound like a very simple idea, but unfortunately, many children do not have access to books in their homes. At World Book Day, we provide children with an opportunity to have a book of their own. Along with all the World Book Day £1/€1.50 books, we have two exclusive Irish published titles, one in English and one in Irish.

To discover all the ways you can celebrate World Book Day this year, have a look at our schools and nurseries hub, here.

We’re very excited to announce that for World Book Day 2022 for the first time ever readers will have the opportunity to choose between two Irish published titles! The Irish language title, Cluasa Capaill ar an Rí is the winner of the 2021 Réics Carló Award (Book of the Year for Young Readers one of the An tOireachtas Publishing Awards) and will be available in a special World Book Day edition that can be exchanged for the €1.50 tokens with support from Foras na Gaeilge and An tOireachtas.  For more information on the title, visit here.

And the English language title, Deadly Irish History! Fun with the Celts and the Vikings by John Farrelly, which is from The O’Brien Press. For more information on the title, visit here.
