I lived in o connell st.. this was also known as delaneys and as far as i remember sheila,s ladieswear came later who i think also had a shop for toddlers across from the blackrock towards the Friary. I am new to this site and am loving it. Thanks to my sister-in-law, Ann O Dwyer who informed me of it.
Holland and Barrett are there now. It was Birthdays when we moved here in 2006.
This shop was O Reillys, Mens Outfitters, when the photo was taken. In fact the name over the door seems to be R. O’ Reilly. The four panels on the upper story, south facing wall ,were advertisements for clothes.
I remember one of these panels being in situ as late as the nineteen seventies or eighties. It was blue enamel with the inscription “O Reillys -on top in large letters with the further lower inscription “Mens suits 30/- for sale ” . In fact OReilly is just legible on the right hand panels particularly, in the photo.
Dr Pat was indeed married to Kitty O Reilly. Hi Tom.
I think the late Olympian Dr Pat O’Callaghan’s wife’s family were the owners when that photo was taken.
To more than a few over 30’s it’s also known as Shelia’s Corner. And McDonalds will forever be known as the Allegro
Michael, For the over 40’s it will always be known as ” SHEILAS CORNER “
You are right Fiona, it is “Birthdays” on O’Connell Street
Is it birthday’s on O’Connell Street?
