About Scoil Aonghusa

At Scoil Aonghusa we provide an educational environment that promotes the development of the whole child, body and mind, in a nurturing, stimulating and happy setting. The school was established in 1978 for children with Moderate General Learning Difficulties (GLD). We now cater for three designated areas of learning ability:

  • Moderate GLD
  • Severe / Profound GLD
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Scoil Aonghusa is a co-educational school for students aged 4 – 18 years, with distinct junior, middle and senior sections. We accept each child as an individual and adapt the curriculum to meet his / her specific needs.

Our aim is for students to reach their full potential, allowing them to participate in school, home and community life to the maximum of their ability. In order to achieve this, we use individually planned programmes, together with a range of teaching approaches and interventions, an adapted environment and specialised equipment and materials.

Student / teacher ratios are high with a maximum of 6 or 8 students in each class. All classes are further resourced and supported by Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) to meet children’s individual needs.
