Hello. My family is from County Tipperary and I am looking for the two sisters who operated the Barrett's smoke shop in Clonmel. I gather the shop closed once the smoking ban came into effect in 2004. A quick search using Google street view shows the store now converted. I loved the area when I was there in September 1996 and long to come back to visit family. -Robin Hastings nee Barrett Barrett/Hyland/Scully/Egan/O'Brien/Ryan are some common names in my family tree.

Coursing with hounds is a sport which shows the reality of life & death .In this day & age of drugs and crime it might be a good thing to show our young people -when the suicide rate is at record levels in the younger age group -it is time to question this political corectionalsim .The Hare gets a fair chance .Remember in the dark days of English tyranny an Irishman was not allowed to own a hunting dog. Long live Coursing.I spell it differently from the objector. Mick Slattery Australia

I love Clonmel and its heritage but I’m not proud of that disgraceful event known as the “national Coiursing Meeting” and I believe I am entitled to dissent from the view that it makes the town and district look good. It doesn’t. This 3 day festival of animal baiting, of subjecting hares to the terror and distress of this so-called sport, is making Clonmel the cruelty capital of Ireland. We should ban it forever as happened in other parts of the world (Northern Ireland banned it last year) instead of promoting it as a wonderful sporting event, which it must definitely isn’t! This it what some call “sport”

Great site. Well done. Clonmel looks a wonderfully lively place. My relative George Hughes is in St Patrick's graveyard and I definitely want to come and visit. If anyone from the Landy family is still around I would love to hear from them (or anyone else related to George ) Best wishes from France.

Enjoyed short history of the city/town as my ancestors came to America from there in the second half of the 1800's.

Hi One of my ancestors Marianne Wogan married a Daniel O'Brien from Clonmel. In the 1911 census Marianne is widowed and living at 25/26 Irishtown She had Public House and Drapery shop. As far as I know Marianne had 3 surviving daughters, Josephine, Bessie and Gertie. Would love to hear if anyone remembers O'Brien's Public House/Shop Go raibh maith agat Úna
