General Information
Mitchel Street is a narrow street connecting Parnell Street to the centre of town – O’Connell Street and Gladstone Street
At its western extremity is the Main Guard. At its eastern end stood the East Gate, long gone.
It is more familiarly known to the people of Clonmel as The Narrow Street.
It was previously known as Dublin Street, and before that, as Sheelane or Sheelin Street.
Before that again, it was known as Hawke Street, named after an Admiral Hawke.
Mitchel Street 1-19
Mitchel Street, aka “The Narrow Street” is one of the narrowest in the town. It connected the Main Guard to the East Gate.
Mitchel Street 21-39
Nos. 21-39 are on the northern side of the street, and a laneway, East Lane, provided access to the “Shambles” area of the town.
